Whether you are a beginner or an experienced quilter, QT has a class just right for you. We have a spacious and well lit classroom, and great teachers who will share their knowledge with you. Check out our samples displayed around the classroom and select your next project.

 

Classes offered February-April 2010

• BEGINNER CLASSES: Learn to quilt or reacquaint yourself with the overall process.
• ONE TIME CLASSES: usually a quick project, day retreat or with a guest instructor.
• CLASS SERIES: Class meets on a continual basis, usually 2-3 sessions.
• TECHNIQUE CLASSES: generally some type of applique, paper piecing, or embroidery.
• CLUBS & OPEN SEW: Includes group meetings, show and tell, & classroom work time.

BEGINNER CLASSES

QT Quilt Basics:

Quilt Basics is a comprehensive, seven week class for the novice and/or slightly experienced quilter.  This class teaches a variety of quilting techniques including:

• Rotary Cutting and Machine Piecing
• Half Square Triangle Construction
• Folded Corner Method
• Paper Piecing
• Log Cabin Construction
• Machine Quilting
• Binding

Teacher Julie Peterson has designed "Fields of Minnesota" with the beginner student in mind.  Julie's hands-on teaching style gives beginners the confidence to learn.  Hand selected kits are available for this class project, perfect for those who aren't quite ready to make fabric selections for themselves.

 

Winter 2010:

Daytime 1 - 3:30 pm: Mondays: March 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, April 5, 12

Evening 6 - 8:30 pm: Mondays: March 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, April 5, 12

 

*A variety of hand selected kits are available, or staff can help you select fabrics to suit your personal preferences.

*Class payment is required at time of registration to guarantee space.  Cancellations made less than 2 weeks prior to first class date are non-refundable; store credit is issued for cancellations made prior to two weeks before first class.  Students needing more sewing (non-instructional) time are welcome to use the classroom when not in use - must call to make arrangements ahead of time.

*Sewing machines are available to use during class for free; must reserve at time of registration, use own thread and supplies, replace broken needles, set up and put away machine, and arrange for a quick lesson before class to learn to thread machine and wind bobbins.  Bobbins can be purchased for $.99 if you wish to take bobbin with you.

Cost: $68.00 (17.5 hours of instruction) plus pattern "Fields of Minnesota"...kits available!

KYOTO GARDENS

Doris has begun a series of classes based on Judy Martin's new book, "Stellar Quilts". Pictured above is the Jan-April sample, "Kyoto Gardens". The June-August project is called "Capistrano". Space is limited.

MEMORY QUILT SAMPLER

Interested in making a memory quilt to commemorate a favorite hobby, graduation, anniversary or a new baby? Get a crash course in several techniques including t-shirt blocks, fabric photo transfers, embroidery transfers, texture magic and making quilt labels. The class will focus on preparation techniques, but we will also offer pattern suggestions for memory quilt settings.

LUCKY STARS

The perfect class for the Quilt Basics graduate or Beginner Quilter. You'll get a basic introduction to Star Block construction from this popular Atkinson Designs pattern. Also, a great choice for a memory quilt, by customizing your star centers. Select 12 Fat Quarters and you'll have a small lap quilt in no time!

SMALL QUILT CLUB

Making a small quilt is like having a yummy dessert. Our class projects will be based on the books “Bits and Pieces” and “Remembering Adelia”. Host Linda will share many methods that can be used for making small quilts. Techniques covered will include hand piecing, appliqué, paper piecing and curved piecing, dimensional appliqué, pattern resizing and more. Show and tell is encouraged, and scrappy fabric bundles will be available to club members.

QT Class Cancellation Policy

• Store credit will be issued for STUDENT cancellations made more than 14 days prior to class date.
• You will be notified two weeks prior to class date for class cancellation due to low enrollment. Registration fees will be refunded in full at that time.
